Executive Director – Full Time

As an Executive Director (ED) at Royal Gardens, you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operation of our retirement residence and for promoting an atmosphere of warmth and hospitality for our residents. Reporting to the Senior Vice President, the ED will effectively utilize his/her team leadership skills to motivate and engage their team to provide care to the highest standard. The ED will maximize operational excellence while building a strong community comprised of meaningful and productive relationships.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and achieve the Home's financial objectives through budget development and ongoing management of financial results throughout the year
  • Deliver on the home's annual Net Operating Income objective and provide performance reporting to Senior Management, highlighting emerging issues and any required corrective action(s)
  • Ensure that appropriate levels of care are provided to residents through effective staffing and use of resources
  • Establish and maintain policies and procedures to ensure standards of care and safety are met and that resources are effectively utilized
  • Effectively utilize and monitor quality assurance programs to ensure the highest quality of care is provided, ensuring compliance to regulatory and company standards at all times
  • Participate in the selection, development, and motivation of a skilled multidisciplinary team of employees
  • Lead labour relations within the Home and provide ongoing coaching, training, and performance monitoring to staff, taking corrective action when necessary
  • Coordinate positive interactions with resident family contacts and promote family involvement within the retirement community
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Coordinator and other Executive Directors to maintain and enhance occupancy levels within the Home
  • Actively engage in various public relations initiatives throughout the year to enhance and support the positive image of the Home within the community
  • Promote opportunities for cooperation with our sister-Homes to optimize service delivery to residents and the effective use of shared resources
  • Represent the Home at relevant community, professional, and civic meetings
  • Provide oversight and leadership for Health & Safety programs such as Infection Prevention & Control (IPAC) and Fire Prevention; Ensure that health and safety policies and guidelines are in place and adhered to
  • Ensure effective reporting and documentation is maintained, performing audits

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or 3-5 years of equivalent experience in a Retirement Residence, Long Term Care Home, hospitality industry, or general management
  • Possesses sound judgement and strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to liaison with, and have familiarity of, the workings of the Ministry of Health, LHIN, the hospital and other community resources
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate and lead an efficient, productive workforce is essential
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities and excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Human Resources Manager – Full Time

As the Human Resources Manager (HRM) you will participate in the development and implementation of Human Resources policies and strategies and provide advice and counsel to AON’s Senior Management team. Reporting to the Senior Vice President, the HRM will ensure that policies and legislation are adhered to and business strategies are achieved. The HRM works cooperatively with, and supports, the Company’s Payroll and Benefits Administration functions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide support, counsel, and administrative support to organization managers with regard to Human Resources practices ensuring compliance with collective agreements and relevant legislation
  • Provide leadership, direction, and support to managers in personnel matters including performance and attendance management, investigations, disciplinary action, terminations, etc
  • Assist with negotiations and administering the Collective Agreements for seven bargaining units
  • Ability to develop and maintain productive working relationships with Union and Association partners/representatives
  • Working with the Senior Managers the HRM will ensure annual Performance Appraisals are competently and consistently done according to policies and guidelines, and that associated compensation practices are executed appropriately.
  • Participate in the development and revision of policies and procedures, addressing changes in legislation/regulations as required
  • Establish and maintain processes and procedures to monitor organizational effectiveness, conducting audits and reporting results to the senior management team
  • Provide direction and leadership to the Administrators with regards to occupational and non-occupational claim management ensuring legislative compliance
  • Participate in the development of recruitment strategies including coordination of recruitment processes and participation in hiring processes as needed to ensure the highest calibre of candidates are selected
  • Provide education, training, and leadership to line managers relating to Human Resources subjects including performance management, attendance management, WSIB and return to work plans, etc.

Qualifications:

  • College diploma or post graduate degree in Business Administration or the equivalent education and experience
  • Minimum five years of progressive experience in Human Resources administration
  • Experience in labour relations and unionized environments an asset
  • Up to date knowledge and understanding of Human Resources and Labour Relations legislation (ESA, Ontario Human Rights Code, WSIB, etc) is required
  • Strong leadership skills with an ability to multi-task and prioritize effectively, and maintain discretion and confidentiality
  • Strong computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft (Excel, Outlook, and Word)
  • Excellent communication, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development of resident Care Plans and interventions while providing hands-on, clinical nursing care, including medication administration and assisting in the Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) as required.
  • Direct, supervise, and mentor RPNs & PSWs in the provision of care in a manner that promotes dignity, compassion, and is in adherence to Care Plans.
  • Maintain proficiency in RAI-MDS 2.0 and provide support to Care Department staff in this area.
  • Ensures clear and appropriate communication occurs across the department, residence, and with families; promotes positive relationships with staff, physicians, and external care providers to ensure high quality service is provided to residents and resources are efficiently utilized.
  • Actively participates in ongoing professional development including in-services, seminars, and conferences as directed.

Qualifications:

  • Valid RN License from Ontario College of Nurses.
  • Supervisory experience and prior experience in a retirement or long term care setting preferred but not necessary.
  • Must be able to work varied shifts as assigned.
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to work as part of a team.

  • Actively participates in ongoing professional development including in-services, seminars, and conferences as directed.

Qualifications:

  • Valid RPN Registration with the Colleges of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
  • Must have comprehensive knowledge of medication administration practices.
  • Must have excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills and be able to work as part of a team.
  • Experience in geriatric nursing considered an asset.

Personal Support Workers – Part-Time

As a Personal Support Worker, we will rely upon you to assist our residents in their activities of daily living, providing skilled care in an empathetic and nurturing manner. Reporting to the Director of Care, you will be responsible for providing hands-on care to residents including assistance with personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, mobility, and other emotional and social aspects of daily life. You will maintain and promote good communication with staff, enhance customer service to residents/families, and ensure the efficient use of resources.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide hands-on compassionate delivery of skilled services to residents in the provision of care with adherence to confidentiality, privacy, and a focus on maintaining dignity.
  • Assist residents with the personal care required for daily living including bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, functional mobility and mobilization, feeding, wound care, oral care, etc.
  • Attend and actively participate in developmental in-services, department meetings, and/or seminars and external continuing education opportunities.
  • Ensure clear and effective communication while promoting teamwork and good relationships with co-workers; Interact with residents and their families in a professional, courteous, and friendly manner at all times.
  • Respond to resident and family concerns promptly and in a manner that optimizes resident dignity, promotes independence, and is sensitive to any physical and/or emotional challenges they may face.

Qualifications:

  • Must possess a valid PSW certificate or be in the second year of the RPN / RN program.
  • Must have strong communication and interpersonal skills and be a team player.
  • Prior experience in retirement or long term care environment preferred.
  • Must be available to work varied shifts.

Cook – Part-Time

Location:Gardens of Peterborough Retirement Residence, Peterborough

Reporting to the Dining Supervisor, the Cook prepares high quality, nutritionally balanced meals for residents, following approved recipes and ensuring that portion control, temperature, and food presentation guidelines are adhered to. Ensure that public health regulations pertaining to sanitation and food preparation, storage, and disposal are followed and that Company and RHA standards are adhered to. You will help to set menus, prepare meals, and direct Dietary Aides in basic food preparation and meal service.

Qualifications:

  • Two years experience & a valid Safe Food Handler's Certificate, diploma in Culinary Management or a Red Seal Chef designation preferred.
  • Must have Smart Serve certification or be willing to obtain.
  • Experience in volume food cooking and preparation preferred.
  • Familiarity with therapeutic diets & nutritional standards for seniors an asset.
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to work as part of a team.
  • Available to work weekends, varied shifts, call-ins, and holidays as assigned.

Dietary Aide – Part-Time

The Dietary Aide (server) is responsible for professional table service supporting a superior dining experience for residents and at caterings and special events. Must be prompt, thorough and responsive to residents' needs; communicate residents' concerns to Cook and Supervisor-Dining Services in a timely appropriate manner; takes action to satisfy the residents promptly and in a pleasant manner. Must be able to take meal selections, understand various meal plans and complete job duties in assigned time. The Server assists with routine operations including preparation, clearing, cleaning of dining rooms; washing dishes; general tasks in dining services setting and following Dining Services policies and procedures or direction of the Cook, Completes documentation as required. Handles food, dishware and utensils according to Public Health Standards.

Qualifications:
  • Safe Food Handler's, SmartServe and WHMIS certification mandatory. Food Service Worker's certificate or enrollment in course an asset.
  • Experience in table service in a hotel/restaurant or institutional setting helpful. Catering and Special events experience an asset.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work in formal service setting.
  • Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs.

Housekeeper/Laundry Aide – Part-Time

Working collaboratively with other members of the Environmental Services team and following departmental policies and procedures, the Housekeeping Attendant is responsible to ensure that resident personal spaces, buildings, grounds, and common areas are maintained in a clean, safe, and orderly manner that meets or exceeds resident and family expectations, as well as ORCA and Company standards. As Laundry Aide, you will be responsible for providing laundry services including resident and common laundry for the Home as per Company standards.

Qualifications:
  • Experience in housekeeping/laundry in an institutional setting preferred.
  • Self motivated with strong communication skills.
  • Polite demeanour and neat appearance, able to comply with company dress-code.
  • Dependable, able to maintain a good record of attendance and availability.
  • Must be able to follow both oral and written instructions in the English language.
  • Must be able to work weekends, varied shifts and holidays as assigned.
  • Must adhere to Company's immunization policies as required.
