Environmental Services Supervisor – Full Time

As the Environmental Services Supervisor, you will be responsible for the leadership of the Environmental Services team and provide the highest caliber of service to the older adults who call Empress Gardens and Summit Terrace their home

This successful candidate will be responsible to:

  • Oversee and manage the overall housekeeping, laundry, and maintenance services operation of the Home, including staff and contracted service providers
  • Manage staff scheduling and payroll on a biweekly basis
  • Participate in the selection and development of housekeeping and laundry staff. Provide coaching, training, performance monitoring, and take corrective action as needed
  • Complete routine audits of housekeeping and laundry services as well as the building and external environment to ensure policy compliance
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of infection control protocols, emergency planning and preparedness, and health and safety practices
  • Perform basic and preventative maintenance and cleaning procedures, including light repairs of building components
  • Coordinate work orders, working cooperatively with Head Office maintenance resources and third party vendors and suppliers
  • Assist in the development of the department budget, demonstrating good judgement and proactively preparing recommendations for major spending requests

Qualifications:

  • Post secondary education in a related field is required
  • Experience in supervising staff and environmental services in a seniors and/or hospitality setting
  • Knowledge of maintenance, building systems, or components an asset
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Sound judgement and excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and customer service

Dining Services Supervisor – Full-Time (Maternity Leave Coverage)

As the Dining Services Supervisor, you will be responsible for the leadership of the Dining Services team and provide the highest caliber of service to the older adults who call Canterbury Gardens their home.

This successful candidate will be responsible to:

  • Oversee and direct the daily activities on site, including food preparation and service to residents in accordance with established standards
  • Ensure food is prepared for residents following approved recipes and that portion control, temperature, and food presentation guidelines are adhered to; assist in the preparation of meals while also supervising and directing the activities of staff
  • Ensure that dietary restrictions and food allergies are known and properly communicated
  • Provide coaching, direction, and ongoing performance monitoring to the Dining Services staff
  • Oversee routine operations including menu changes, staff replacements, and service calls
  • Assist with the development of food and labour budgets, monitor spending, and ensure proper controls are in place for inventories of food, equipment, and supplies
  • Manage staff scheduling and payroll on a biweekly basis
  • Lead Dining Services activities for special events and marketing functions as required
  • Promote teamwork through demonstration of dependability and effective communication
  • Contribute to the maintenance and implementation of infection control protocols, emergency planning and preparedness, and health and safety practices

This successful candidate will be responsible to:

  • Culinary Management, Nutrition Management, Cook I or II designation or other related diploma is preferred
  • Safe Food Handler’s certificate and Smart-Serve are required
  • Two years experience in volume food cooking and preparation in a Hotel/Restaurant or institutional health care setting required
  • Sound judgement and excellent communication, interpersonal and leadership skills, and customer service

Moira Place currently has a business opportunity for a Licensed Hairdresser interested in operating a Hair Salon for the clientele within our Home. A beautiful salon space is available onsite for lease. The new operator must provide their own styling equipment and supplies. Currently the salon is operating 5 days per week, however hours are flexible. Commencement of this business opportunity will be determined upon selection of a qualified stylist.

You will be energized by the many challenges associated with an ‘aging in place’ philosophy and the varied and comprehensive levels of care required. You are a take-charge individual who leads by example and utilizes coaching and staff recognition to maximize staff performance.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development of resident Care Plans and interventions while providing hands-on, clinical nursing care, including medication administration and assisting in the Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) as required.
  • Direct, supervise, and mentor RPNs & PSWs in the provision of care in a manner that promotes dignity, compassion, and is in adherence to Care Plans.
  • Maintain proficiency in RAI-MDS 2.0 and provide support to Care Department staff in this area.
  • Ensures clear and appropriate communication occurs across the department, residence, and with families; promotes positive relationships with staff, physicians, and external care providers to ensure high quality service is provided to residents and resources are efficiently utilized.
  • Actively participates in ongoing professional development including in-services, seminars, and conferences as directed.

Qualifications:

  • Valid RN License from Ontario College of Nurses.
  • Supervisory experience and prior experience in a retirement or long term care setting preferred but not necessary.
  • Must be able to work varied shifts as assigned.
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to work as part of a team.

  • Must have comprehensive knowledge of medication administration practices.
  • Must have excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills and be able to work as part of a team.
  • Experience in geriatric nursing considered an asset.

As a Personal Support Worker, we will rely upon you to assist our residents in their activities of daily living, providing skilled care in an empathetic and nurturing manner. Reporting to the Director of Care, you will be responsible for providing hands-on care to residents including assistance with personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, mobility, and other emotional and social aspects of daily life. You will maintain and promote good communication with staff, enhance customer service to residents/families, and ensure the efficient use of resources.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide hands-on compassionate delivery of skilled services to residents in the provision of care with adherence to confidentiality, privacy, and a focus on maintaining dignity.
  • Assist residents with the personal care required for daily living including bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, functional mobility and mobilization, feeding, wound care, oral care, etc.
  • Attend and actively participate in developmental in-services, department meetings, and/or seminars and external continuing education opportunities.
  • Ensure clear and effective communication while promoting teamwork and good relationships with co-workers; Interact with residents and their families in a professional, courteous, and friendly manner at all times.
  • Respond to resident and family concerns promptly and in a manner that optimizes resident dignity, promotes independence, and is sensitive to any physical and/or emotional challenges they may face.

Qualifications:

  • Must possess a valid PSW certificate or be in the second year of the RPN / RN program.
  • Must have strong communication and interpersonal skills and be a team player.
  • Prior experience in retirement or long term care environment preferred.
  • Must be available to work varied shifts.

Cook – Part-Time

Reporting to the Dining Supervisor, the Cook prepares high quality, nutritionally balanced meals for residents, following approved recipes and ensuring that portion control, temperature, and food presentation guidelines are adhered to. Ensure that public health regulations pertaining to sanitation and food preparation, storage, and disposal are followed and that Company and RHA standards are adhered to. You will help to set menus, prepare meals, and direct Dietary Aides in basic food preparation and meal service.

Qualifications:

  • Two years experience & a valid Safe Food Handler's Certificate, diploma in Culinary Management or a Red Seal Chef designation preferred.
  • Must have Smart Serve certification or be willing to obtain.
  • Experience in volume food cooking and preparation preferred.
  • Familiarity with therapeutic diets & nutritional standards for seniors an asset.
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to work as part of a team.
  • Available to work weekends, varied shifts, call-ins, and holidays as assigned.

Dietary Aide – Part-Time

The Dietary Aide (server) is responsible for professional table service supporting a superior dining experience for residents and at caterings and special events. Must be prompt, thorough and responsive to residents' needs; communicate residents' concerns to Cook and Supervisor-Dining Services in a timely appropriate manner; takes action to satisfy the residents promptly and in a pleasant manner. Must be able to take meal selections, understand various meal plans and complete job duties in assigned time. The Server assists with routine operations including preparation, clearing, cleaning of dining rooms; washing dishes; general tasks in dining services setting and following Dining Services policies and procedures or direction of the Cook, Completes documentation as required. Handles food, dishware and utensils according to Public Health Standards.

Qualifications:
  • Safe Food Handler's, SmartServe and WHMIS certification mandatory. Food Service Worker's certificate or enrollment in course an asset.
  • Experience in table service in a hotel/restaurant or institutional setting helpful. Catering and Special events experience an asset.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work in formal service setting.
  • Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs.

Housekeeper/Laundry Aide – Part-Time

Working collaboratively with other members of the Environmental Services team and following departmental policies and procedures, the Housekeeping Attendant is responsible to ensure that resident personal spaces, buildings, grounds, and common areas are maintained in a clean, safe, and orderly manner that meets or exceeds resident and family expectations, as well as ORCA and Company standards. As Laundry Aide, you will be responsible for providing laundry services including resident and common laundry for the Home as per Company standards.

Qualifications:
  • Experience in housekeeping/laundry in an institutional setting preferred.
  • Self motivated with strong communication skills.
  • Polite demeanour and neat appearance, able to comply with company dress-code.
  • Dependable, able to maintain a good record of attendance and availability.
  • Must be able to follow both oral and written instructions in the English language.
  • Must be able to work weekends, varied shifts and holidays as assigned.
  • Must adhere to Company's immunization policies as required.
