Executive Director - The Gardens of Peterborough

As an Executive Director at Princess Gardens, you will be responsible for managing the day to day operation of our retirement residence and for promoting an atmosphere of warmth and hospitality for our residents. You will oversee the effective use of resources and ensure that service standards are achieved by demonstrating a commitment to exceeding ‘customer’ expectations while being responsive to a changing and dynamic environment. Effectively utilize your team leadership skills to engage your team of skilled employees to provide care at the highest standards, maximizing operational excellence and building a strong community comprised of meaningful and productive relationships.

Responsibilities:

  • Management and administration including the selection, development, and motivation of a skilled team of employees; ensure a high standard of service through the provision of ongoing coaching, training, and performance monitoring – taking corrective action when necessary and in accordance with policy.
  • Ensure that appropriate levels of care are provided to residents at all times.
  • Establish and maintain policies and procedures to ensure standards of care and safety are met and that resources are effectively deployed.
  • Effectively utilize and monitor various QA programs to ensure the highest quality of care and that resident social and physical needs are being met consistently, while also ensuring compliance to regulatory and company standards.
  • Coordinate positive interactions with resident family contacts, including regular communication and promoting involvement in the retirement community.
  • Manage and achieve the Home’s financial objectives through budget development and ongoing management of financial results throughout the year.
  • Deliver on the home’s annual Net Operating Income objective while providing regular performance monitoring to Senior Management, highlighting emerging issues and any required corrective action(s).
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Coordinator and other Executive Directors to maintain and enhance occupancy levels within the Home.
  • Actively engage in various public relations initiatives throughout the year to maintain and enhance the positive image of the Home within the community.
  • Promote cooperation with our other Homes to optimize service delivery to residents and the optimal utilization of resources.
  • Represent the Home at relevant community, professional, and civic meetings.
  • Receive payment from residents for services rendered, issuing receipts, and processing such payments in accordance with company procedures.
  • Actively support a safe working environment through ensuring that health and safety policies and guidelines are in place, staff are properly oriented and trained, workplace inspections occur regularly, incidents are reported appropriately, and disciplinary action is taken when required.
  • Ensure effective reporting and documentation is maintained at all times.
  • Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree or 3-5 years of equivalent experience in a Retirement Residence, Long Term Care Home, hospitality industry, or general management
    • Demonstrated leadership capabilities and excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    • Possesses sound judgement and the composure required to positively address and manage conflicting priorities and challenging situations
    • Ability to liaison with, and have familiarity of, the workings of the Ministry of Health, LHIN, the hospital and other community resources
    • Demonstrated ability to motivate and lead an efficient, productive workforce is essential
    • Proven dedication to the provision of quality life experiences and supportive care services for older adults

Registered Nurse (RN) – Full Time / Part Time

As our successful candidate, you will be a dynamic, self-motivated nursing professional interested in providing quality-focused clinical care to older adults in a home-like atmosphere. You will be energized by the many challenges associated with an ‘aging in place’ philosophy and the varied and comprehensive levels of care required. You understand the many rewards of geriatric nursing and appreciate the opportunity it provides to enhance the lives of our senior population. You are a take-charge individual who leads by example and utilizes coaching and staff recognition to maximize staff performance.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development of resident Care Plans and interventions while providing hands-on, clinical nursing care, including medication administration and assisting in the Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) as required.
  • Direct, supervise, and mentor RPNs & PSWs in the provision of care in a manner that promotes dignity, compassion, and is in adherence to Care Plans.
  • Maintain proficiency in RAI-MDS 2.0 and provide support to Care Department staff in this area.
  • Ensures clear and appropriate communication occurs across the department, residence, and with families; promotes positive relationships with staff, physicians, and external care providers to ensure high quality service is provided to residents and resources are efficiently utilized.
  • Actively participates in ongoing professional development including in-services, seminars, and conferences as directed.

Qualifications:

  • Valid RN License from Ontario College of Nurses.
  • Supervisory experience and prior experience in a retirement or long term care setting preferred but not necessary.
  • Must be able to work varied shifts as assigned.
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to work as part of a team.

Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) – Casual/Part-time

  • Actively participates in ongoing professional development including in-services, seminars, and conferences as directed.

Qualifications:

  • Valid RPN Registration with the Colleges of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
  • Must have comprehensive knowledge of medication administration practices.
  • Must have excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills and be able to work as part of a team.
  • Experience in geriatric nursing considered an asset.

Personal Support Workers – Part-time

As a Personal Support Worker, we will rely upon you to assist our residents in their activities of daily living, providing skilled care in an empathetic and nurturing manner. Reporting to the Director of Care, you will be responsible for providing hands-on care to residents including assistance with personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, mobility, and other emotional and social aspects of daily life. You will maintain and promote good communication with staff, enhance customer service to residents/families, and ensure the efficient use of resources.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide hands-on compassionate delivery of skilled services to residents in the provision of care with adherence to confidentiality, privacy, and a focus on maintaining dignity.
  • Assist residents with the personal care required for daily living including bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, functional mobility and mobilization, feeding, wound care, oral care, etc.
  • Attend and actively participate in developmental in-services, department meetings, and/or seminars and external continuing education opportunities.
  • Ensure clear and effective communication while promoting teamwork and good relationships with co-workers; Interact with residents and their families in a professional, courteous, and friendly manner at all times.
  • Respond to resident and family concerns promptly and in a manner that optimizes resident dignity, promotes independence, and is sensitive to any physical and/or emotional challenges they may face.

Qualifications:

  • Must possess a valid PSW certificate or be in the second year of the RPN / RN program.
  • Must have strong communication and interpersonal skills and be a team player.
  • Prior experience in retirement or long term care environment preferred.
  • Must be available to work varied shifts.

Cook – Part Time

Location:Gardens of Peterborough Retirement Residence, Peterborough

Reporting to the Dining Supervisor, the Cook prepares high quality, nutritionally balanced meals for residents, following approved recipes and ensuring that portion control, temperature, and food presentation guidelines are adhered to. Ensure that public health regulations pertaining to sanitation and food preparation, storage, and disposal are followed and that Company and RHA standards are adhered to. You will help to set menus, prepare meals, and direct Dietary Aides in basic food preparation and meal service.

Qualifications:

  • Two years experience & a valid Safe Food Handler"s Certificate, diploma in Culinary Management or a Red Seal Chef designation preferred.
  • Must have Smart Serve certification or be willing to obtain.
  • Experience in volume food cooking and preparation preferred.
  • Familiarity with therapeutic diets & nutritional standards for seniors an asset.
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to work as part of a team.
  • Available to work weekends, varied shifts, call-ins, and holidays as assigned.

Dietary Aide – Part-time

The Dietary Aide (server) is responsible for professional table service supporting a superior dining experience for residents and at caterings and special events. Must be prompt, thorough and responsive to residents' needs; communicate residents' concerns to Cook and Supervisor-Dining Services in a timely appropriate manner; takes action to satisfy the residents promptly and in a pleasant manner. Must be able to take meal selections, understand various meal plans and complete job duties in assigned time. The Server assists with routine operations including preparation, clearing, cleaning of dining rooms; washing dishes; general tasks in dining services setting and following Dining Services policies and procedures or direction of the Cook, Completes documentation as required. Handles food, dishware and utensils according to Public Health Standards.

Qualifications:
  • Safe Food Handler's, SmartServe and WHMIS certification mandatory. Food Service Worker's certificate or enrollment in course an asset.
  • Experience in table service in a hotel/restaurant or institutional setting helpful. Catering and Special events experience an asset.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work in formal service setting.
  • Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs.

Casual Housekeeper/Laundry Aide – Part-time

Working collaboratively with other members of the Environmental Services team and following departmental policies and procedures, the Housekeeping Attendant is responsible to ensure that resident personal spaces, buildings, grounds, and common areas are maintained in a clean, safe, and orderly manner that meets or exceeds resident and family expectations, as well as ORCA and Company standards. As Laundry Aide, you will be responsible for providing laundry services including resident and common laundry for the Home as per Company standards.

Qualifications:
  • Experience in housekeeping/laundry in an institutional setting preferred.
  • Self motivated with strong communication skills.
  • Polite demeanour and neat appearance, able to comply with company dress-code.
  • Dependable, able to maintain a good record of attendance and availability.
  • Must be able to follow both oral and written instructions in the English language.
  • Must be able to work weekends, varied shifts and holidays as assigned.
  • Must adhere to Company's immunization policies as required.

Events Team Lead

Location:Penryn Park at Port Hope Golf and Country Club

Penryn Park at Port Hope Golf and Country Club is currently hiring a part-time seasonal Event Team Lead for our Special Events and Wedding Department. Reporting to the Special Event Coordinator, the Team Lead is responsible for providing support for the various tasks related to weddings/special events and tournament preparation and execution. You will be required to manage other staff, direct third party vendors, and troubleshoot any onsite difficulties in a customer friendly manner. You will work closely with your team to ensure that events run effectively, while providing support to other areas as required. Responsibilities:

  • Lead and assist with the set up of events, including but not limited to: moving tables, lawn furniture and chairs, general cleaning, and table settings including arrangement of linen, china, glassware and silverware.
  • Set up beverage service for special events, including inventory, glassware and cash float.
  • Act as liaison with bride and/or groom in the absence of the Special Event Coordinator
  • Complete closing duties on the day of event including invoicing clients, dismissing staff, assisting with safe departure of special event guests, general clean up, and ensuring property is secure and locked.
  • Provide helpful support to the Special Event Coordinator and Special Events team as required.
Qualifications:
  • Must have Smart Serve certification or willing to obtain.
  • Experience as a team leader and/or supervisor preferred
  • Experience in the hospitality field is strongly preferred.
  • Must display professionalism at all times, exercising sound judgment with the ability to prioritize, multitask, and work independently as needed.
  • Must have full availability to work Thursday to Sunday from May to October.

Bartender

Reporting to the Special Events Coordinator or Event Team Lead, Bartenders are responsible to ensure that all guests enjoy superior beverage service. The Bartender must demonstrate strong communication skills, providing exceptional customer service while maintaining a professional demeanor at all times. Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with provincial liquor legislation and regulations
  • Prepare drink orders for wedding guests and special event guests
  • Assist with set up and tear down of weddings/special events/tournaments, including moving tables and chairs, light cleaning, and dishware cleaning
  • Responsible for setup and/or tear down of all bars
  • Maintain supplies in the bars; replace them when needed, including stock, fresh garnishes and clean glassware
  • Receive cash payments and make change
  • Process Visa/MC and debit payments
Qualifications:
  • Must hold valid Smart Serve certification
  • Bartending / Serving and customer service experience required
  • Must be able to work flexible hours
  • Must display professionalism at all times, exercising sound judgment with the ability to prioritize and multitask as needed.
  • Energetic and flexible, able to work well under pressure and as part of a team
